Shohei Ohtani

Card Identification

The target is Shohei Ohtani’s 2018 Topps Chrome #150 Refractor. PSA catalogs that exact year, product, player, number and variety together. Its set overview places Ohtani in the rookie lineup and separates Refractor from Prism, X-Fractor and the color parallels.^{4, 3}

Why This Card Matters

This is a way to collect Ohtani’s MLB arrival through the Chrome parallel lineup. The rookie connection supplies the career milestone; the Refractor designation gives a player collection a more specific target than an undifferentiated stack of #150s. It also gives a parallel project a clear place to begin.^{4, 3}

Evidence freshness window expired. This is dated player context; current facts require rechecking.

Ohtani’s official 2026 regular-season record lists 30 home runs and an .889 OPS in 139 games for the Dodgers. He also made 14 pitching starts, recording a 1.79 ERA across 85⅔ innings. The regular-season game log ends September 27; those totals are separate from October postseason play.^{6, 2}

What Has Changed Recently

MLB reported lingering right biceps and left knee injuries on October 13. Its October 14 update confirmed his NLCS Game 3 lineup place.^{5, 1}

Why Collectors Care

Following both halves of Ohtani’s game gives a rookie collection more than one story to track. This Refractor marks the beginning of his MLB card history, while the current season shows how his role has developed. A pitching workload or batting line adds player context; it does not change which #150 belongs in the binder.^{6, 4, 3}

Card / Set Context

PSA describes a 200-card base set with Ohtani among its first-year subjects. The parallel list includes Refractor, X-Fractor, Prism, Sepia, Pink and Negative, followed by numbered color versions. Purple is listed at /299 and Blue at /150; no numbered limit is supplied for the standard Refractor.³

Grading & Condition

Give the surface a separate look from the parallel check. Use clear front and back images, change the viewing angle when inspecting a raw copy, and examine centering, corners and edges individually. A slab can help establish the cataloged variety, but the grade still belongs to that particular copy.^{4, 3}

What Collectors Are Watching

Track Ohtani’s next official batting and pitching updates separately, especially workload and appearances. For a collection tied to his two-way career, that distinction is more useful than blending regular-season and postseason totals into one running number.⁶

What to Verify

Resolve the parallel before comparing copies: #150 alone is not enough. Check the complete label or listing description against the card itself, then use photographs to distinguish Refractor from the other named treatments. Treat a claimed print run as a separate fact requiring its own evidence.^{4, 3}
